Default Multiple Codes (P0340/P0522)

My '03 is almost 50K old and I am having two codes pop up and a few related problems. First code, P0340, is camshaft position sensor circuiit, and the second is P0522, engine oil pressure sensor/switch circuit-low voltage. Now what my car does. All of a sudden while driving my emission control light will come on. Then, while driving (manual tran) at about 3000RPM in every gear the engine cuts out abruptly. My cure for this is put the car in neutral and turn it off and then back on (while moving!). The engine cutout stops then, but the emission light remains on for a few hours or days, depending. Also, sometimes when the light is on the car will not start for a few minutes and then just comje back to life like nothing is wrong. I have had problems with plugs and wires before. I changed my plugs twice and replaced my wires once. Maybe its time for some better wires since I replaced my original ones with oems. Any info or feedback is appreciated.

hello - i had a chrysler lhs with this same sensor problem/code. replace the sensor. it's one small bolt and a connector. i got my sensor at my local parts store (kragen) for less that $50. after you replace it, either reset your check engine light with your scan tool or disconnect the battery for 20 minutes. let me know if you need help locating the cam shaft sensor. i have a pt dealer service manual and will look it up for you.

Yep I just replaced mine, the oil pressure sensor.. $16 dollar part at the high priced stealership..

The camshaft position sensor is another common but less common problem with the PT.. On the 01's it was real common for those to go bad..

About a year ago I got the CHECK ENGINE light and my PT came to a halt while doing 80MPH at 11pm on I-95 in South Carolina heading back home to Florida. Code read P0522 and I was in the middle of nowhere. Called for a tow truck, spent overnight in a hotel and towed to a dealer in the morning. Dealer wanted to replace the Cam sensor and wanting to get home I said OK. Mechanic was taking things apart up on the lift when he saw the the wiring harness that had the wires from the cam sensor had come loose from the mounting and wiggled their way down to the half shaft on the passenger side. Hitting the spinning shaft, the insulation and then the wires burnt thru causing the cam sensor signals to be interrupted. No signal, no spark! He soldered the wires back together, shrunk wrapped the harness and tied everything back up out of the way. Cost me half a day and two hours labor. Oh yea, the tow truck broke my front undercar light and the dealer lift broke another light on the side.

The cam sensor wires run along the back of the engine just above the oil filter, so check to see if all the wiring up there is tied out of harms way.

The others covered the sensors - as to wires, I've read of nothing but good and my own experience on both PTs is that Crane wires are the way to go.
www.RaceAndStreet.Com will get them to you in a few days.[?]
