I am purchasing a '03 5 speed tomorrow and was wondering what kind of gas mileage i should expect? The window sticker says 21/27 but how accurate is that really? I do quite a bit of highway driving.
Also, how are they in the snow? I live in MI and we get dumped on every now and then. Thanks. Glad to be part of the club. |

The sticker should have read 17/23 mpg! Since September 2002 when I bought my GT the best I have seen was 23 mpg and I have an autostick. I normally average 20 to 21, but I drive 85 mph going (30 miles one way) to work and hit stop and go traffic on the way home.I couldn't beleive how bad the milage was when I first bought the GT and complained to the dealer. I was told the PT is a heavy car and not very aerodynamic and I would not see the 21/27 mpg as stated on the sticker. That was about the only truthfull thing the dealer ever told me!

Time to put this one out there again:
The gas mileage ESTIMATES on the window stickers are provided by the EPA, who calculates them while doing emissions testing. By law, they are the ONLY gas mileage figures that the manufacturers are allowed to use when selling the car. Period. If they are wrong, it ain't the manufacturers fault, but rather the fault lies with the Totally Bogus, but STANDARDIZED, testing method used by the EPA. If you think PTs have inaccurate EPA mileage numbers: when the EPA tests hybrids they start the run with a full battery, and usually end with a discharged battery, but the testing does not factor in the gas it takes to recharge the battery (which always has to happen in the real world), thus the even More fantastically optimistic EPA numbers for hybrids. "Your Mileage May Vary" (YMMV) is the Oldest Disclaimer on the Net. http://people.kldp.org/~eunjea/jargo...mmv&keyword=on

Glad you joined us.
I am averaging 26 MPG with a turbo lite auto. I don't hit traffic, and I accelerate slower than I used to. If you use the 5-speed properly (don't keep it in third) you should do 25 easy. The PT is fine in snow - particularly if you replace the Good-for-a-Year tires.

Welcome [8)]
Our S1 '03GT has averaged in the high 20's over most of the tanks of 93 octane fuel we've run through it. Most driving is easy and shifting into 5th at 45mph, but that does include a small amount of time at full boost ![]() Our car does very well in the snow on the current 205/50/17" Pirelli P6's, but my experience with the Goodyear RSA's match everyone else's (they pretty much uniformly suck). I also get better forward progress with the Traction Control switched off, FYI. Where in MI are you? Brian
