Ah, the dreaded P1188 code. I lived with that code for over 2 years coming on and off. It is not the turbo, try tracing all your vaccum lines starting from passenger shock tower. After 2yrs and many visits to various dealers and PCM flashes. The problem is caused by a missing vaccum hose to a sensor located on the psgrside firewall. My code is usually trigger when I try to give it a little more accelation from a cruising speed or when I try to throttle up while climbing a hill.
Hope this helps PAW |

"Chysler "SHOULD" be more involved in the dealerships'"
thats for sure !! |

they do, I think. If the tech or the dealership is willing to contact DC's tech support with question to problem they can't resolve.

Thanks for the sticky gold, figured someone we could all use a error code list, and an easy place to find it. Every time I had to search for it, I had to go now how did I word that search on google, kind of like searching trough that old drawer that's now crammed full of old papers and junk. I've gotta start organizing my bookmarks.

Error codes are all good info - but - what the heck is a sticky?
p.s. Haven't been to a dealer for service (except for recalls) in over 30 years. Figured cost savings have paid for at least one new car!

The p1188 code is usually thrown when you have too much boost in a part throttle condition. Boost is building against the partially open throttle plate causing the pressure in front to be higher than the PCM expects. A manual boost controller will do this as it tries to keep the boost at the setpoint of the controller if the engine is producing enough oomph to maintain it. A spring modification on the wastegate actuator will do the same thing. Any dealer mechanics who know our turbo systems will know that you have been playing with the boost if you take the car in with this code and they find no issues with the factory hardware. It's not impossible to get that code while stock if your wastegate is acting erratic or if a hose is leaking/unplugged but you may tip them off that you have been modding your car and give them grounds for warranty denial in the future. Pull any boost mods off your car and reset the PCM. If the code returns you may have a vacuum line pulled off as someone else suggested, but the code will most likely never show up again, until you put mods back on.
Stage 1 is much more forgiving of higher boost levels. I don't know what your mods are but your mechanic is right on. Too much pressure in the upper charge pipe just before the throttle. Brian |
