My CEL came on a couple of weeks ago. My bumper to bumper warranty expired back in August and the dealer wanted $95 just to take a look at the car. I think that's too much so I brought it to my regular mechanic and he was able to pull a code #1188.
He said it had something to do with the turbo (something about "too much pressure in the tube") but it looked like a one time thing and didn't seem serious. He reset the CEL and told me to bring the car back if the light came on again. Well, it did come on again this weekend. I'm hoping it's nothing too serious. The car still has the Powertrain Warranty. If it's a problem with the turbo, it should be covered under that right? Has anyone experienced this type of problem with this particular code number? |

Think it has to do with over boost, P1188 EOT Sensor Ckt. High Voltage. Does it happen when you accelerate quickly?
Here is a list of error codes I pulled off an SRT Forum, should be the same codes we see on our PT's. To retrieve OBDII Error codes from your Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge vehicle, do the following sequence with the key: ON-ACC-ON-ACC-ON and look at the odometer, that is where codes will be displayed. Here are the codes that you may/can get. Ho2S = heated oxyen sensor, TP = throttle position, MAF = mass airflow, MAP = manifold absolute pressure, TC=turbocharger. Here's a list from Punch back in 2003, seems to be alittle different, especially the lower few numbers but the first list above has tons more in the higher numbers. Do some cut and pasting and print out and put in glove box.
This should be a sticky as mention. Get your code definition and your good to go, if you don't understand, then come back and post your problem. Posted - 10/13/2003 : 10:26:05 PM OBD II Fault Codes Reference Guide The Diagnostic Trouble Code numbering follows a standardized structure. All Diagnostic Trouble Codes have a letter followed by a 4-digit number (e.g. P1234). The first letter indicates the type of code: P = Powertrain C = Chassis B = Body U = Network Communication The remaining 4-digit number specifies the problem within that system. Called the dealer and just as I assumed, they can't tell me over the phone, with the code number, if the problem would be covered under the powertrain warranty.
I need to bring the car in. So that's going to be at least $95 down the drain. I'll try to find the time to bring it in this week. |

Yeah dealers really suck after your warrenty is up, I got this coupon in the mail from chrysler to get a $20 dollar oil change and for them to check on a few things that needed to be fixed, they told me about the friggin diagnostic fees. My $20 oil change turned into a $400 dollar diagnosis a couple parts swap. I think the diagnostic fee should be put towards any repairs if needed type of deal.

"diagnostic fee should be put towards any repairs "
Agree with you strangelove. If you get the work done it should be included. And yes, alot of dealer service departments suck big time. I have found out in the past that if you lease a car versus buying you get better treatment under the warranty period. They fix things the first time and don't make you came back three times in hopes that you will go away. They have to, the car is leased and if things aren't taken care of they can't come back and say "you didn't take care of the car" because it was them who didn't take care of it, and it was documented to boot! They can't get out of that one. I still say that Chysler "SHOULD" be more involved in the dealerships. |
