Default overheat

Hello everyone. On the way home today the coolant gauge went all the way up to the red and gave me the chime warning and then it dropped back down. This is the second time this has happened . Can any of you guys tell me what is going on? Thanks in advance.

Do you mean put the key in the ignition and turn 3 times? Tried that and no code came up.

You might have something clogging the emgine coolant ports. Flush it with radiator cleaner like Prestone radiator flush, run water throught the radiator for fifteen minutes and replace the old coolant, I've used Prestone Dexcool which works just fine.

Were you stopped when gauge shot up? Some folks have had the fan die. Once you're moving, temp drops without fan.

Yeah thats strange because when mine went out they had to replace the coolant sensor when it did something strange like that.

If it really shot up and dropped quickly, sounds like an air bubble.
When the car is cooled off, take off radiator cap - coolant should be right at the top.
