Default i think tranny is bad

first off i would like to say Hi. i am 20 i went to an automotive college so i know the ropes.

problem: while accelerating from 40 to 60 my tranny slips. so i let off of the accerlerator and push it again. after 65 mph 2300 rpm it goes away.

what do u think i should do? get a new tranny? car has 44,000 miles. PTGT 2003. do u think that a tranny service "drain& refill/filter change" will fix it?

Welcome.
I would find a place that does a flush (not just drain & fill). It changes all the fluid. The routine should be: drop the pan, change filter, put old fluid back, then hook to flush machine. Ran me about $200. If you're out of warranty, Go with ATF + 5 ( I believe Valvoline makes it)- it's later and surpasses ATF + 4, but isn't recognized by Chrysler.
If that doesn't cure it, then it'd be the clutch packs.

You MAY have 7/70 powertrain warranty. Write down VIN # (visible thru windshield on driver's side) and check with Chrysler or dealer.
If not, price out and ask about clutch pack replacement, whether to replace means fluid has to be drained. If not, start with the fluid flush and see, then you may have to do clutch packs.

If it is not covered with the 7/70 warranty then go to a trany shop that knows this tranny well and get it diagnosed properly. I had solendoids go out on my 03 under the 70,000 waranty so it cost me just $100 at 60,000 miles! Two weeks later I did get my 06.

hi - i think it would be worth a trip to the dealer. it may fall into the powertrain 7/70 warranty. i had my turbo replaced at 25K at a local dealer here. the work receipt stated it was a powertrain 7/70 warranty. it only cost be a $100 deductible. the dealer gets paid either way. i bet they even pad their warranty work a little to screw corporate. my 2 cents.
