Default intake pipe for air and throttle

I don't know if someone has posted this before but I don't have time to scroll through 60-some pages of past topics........sorry.

I am looking to make my own intake pipe and the pipe that goes to the throttle body ( I don't know the tech. terms for these pipes ),
I don't plan on doing some homemade piece of junk.......it's going to be done the right way. Also, I am keeping the stock airbox with the high-flow aircleaner.

My question is this, the turbo opening is 2.5 inches in diameter...from what I have seen,
can I use a 2.5 inch pipe from the aibox to the turbo or should it be bigger like the AMX pipe which I believe was 3"? Does the size of the pipe make any difference?
Also, what size pipe should I be looking at for the piping to the throttle body?

The turbo outlet is 2.5", but the airbox outlet is 3". You can use a 3" pipe and at the turbo you can use an elbow that's 3" on one end and 2.5" on the other end. This place and others sell them.

Here's a pic of an uppercharge pipe that a guy named Adam makes. It will give you an idea of what it looks like.

Thanks MG!
I have seen this guys sight before, that is what got me on this "make it myself" kick.
Is the up pipe 3" also?

I no longer have my '03 GT with Adam's ucp so I can't give you the exact measurement. I'm pretty sure it's the same diameter as the stock ucp. A metal one will make a difference as the stock ucp will balloon under high boost and you will lose boost quicker. The metal one will hold boost longer which means more power longer. Enjoy.

Default Re: intake pipe for air and throttle

I think I am just going to put a 2.5" pipe on the air inlet into the turbo instead of 3". The only reason being that I can purchase a 2.5" aluminum mandrel bent universal tube kit that has all the piping and couplers. I will use most of the pipe to make my up-pipe and the extra 45 degree pipe will be used for the turbo pipe, instead of buying a seperate 3" pipe (cost effective? or me being cheap? whatever)
Unless someone can tell me that I will benefit more with a 3", I am going to try this setup. Any feedback will help.
