Default 2005 PT Cruiser GT only 6500 miles idle issue...

Hi everyone,

I have a not so big problem that I want to see what other people think about it. I bought a 2005 PT Cruiser GT a few months ago. It has about 6500 miles on it. When it is slightly cool out, maybe 50 or lower degrees the car will start with no problems and the idle seems fine, but as soon as I put it in gear it will sometimes almost stall out! It catches itself and pops the idle up before it dies and does this in a cycle about 4-5 times and then it is ok... and drives fine???

I've noticed a few other things too. I owned a 2003 PT GT a little while back and the way this 2005 chimes when the ignition is turned on has me a little suspicious. When the car is turned on there are the normal series of chimes, then about 10-20 seconds after the car is turned on one random chime occurs. Is this normal? I don't see any check engine lights or anything, but it seems like a late chime that is suppose to mean something??

My last question to fellow GT owners is when you are at a stop light in the morning and it is dark out do your headlights and cluster gauges flicker a little? Mine do

My first guess is something... somewhere... might be grounding out. My gut says something might be up with the o2 sensors and just to eliminate that off the list I bought a pair since they were pretty cheap (<$50)and will be installing them soon. Any ideas? [:I]

Batlin, I don't know the solutions to the other stuff you have going on.....my 03 GT does some of the things you have listed also.......the chimes might be your seatbelt warning (chiming because you don't have it on). Check with your dealer, there is a series of steps that you have to do to turn it off.

My 2003gt will chime everytime you start after a stop if a door is ajar or open. Could be a bad door pin maybe?

Well it looks like most of it was due to the o2 sensors... Odd, but it seems to be working a lot better now. Maybe the original owner ran diesel and killed em ??? lol... (i hope not...) It still has a dip in the idle when it is first turned on when the power steering is used hard, like when getting out of a parallel parking spot. But for the most part I'm pretty happy with the o2 fix.

I ordered a stage 1 too from Haynes, which MIGHT be here tomorrow . I had one on my SRT-4 and loved it.

Just an update, with the install of the Stage 1 the stutter is completely gone. The car is running much more 'strong', as in when the ac is turned on I can't even tell when the compressor kicks on and off.
