Default AutoStick problem...

Hey, I'm new here. I've had my '03 turbo automatic for 2 weeks now and my AutoStick doesn't seem to be working properly, yet the dealer can't diagnose the problem; go figure. When I have it A/S mode, it will not let me downshift. I tap it to the left and nothing happens. I tap it to the right and it happily upshifts quickly, but does not respond to my attempts to downshift no matter what speed I'm at. I've taken it back to the dealer twice and both times they told me that it functioned properly while they were driving it. Dude said it responded 100% of the time. Yet, when I'm driving, it responds 1% of the time. Any thoughts?

What my service dept would do is go out with me driving so that I can show them exactly what I'm taliking about. Worth a try.

Blue Streak, how much pressure are you applying when you "tap" it toward you? Your car may be requiring more pressure when you pull it toward you than when you are pushing it away from you. If this is the case, the dealer should still be making whatever adjustment/ replacement is necessary since it shouldn't be acting like that.

I plan to do a ride-a-long with the tech sometime this week. AS for pressure, I've tried everything: tapping it, pulling it, slamming it, pulling-and-holding it, pushing on the button and pulling it.... No luck. [:I]

Okay, it does work. I realized today that if you pull it really "F"ing hard it works. So, can I just get it adjusted so it takes less effort? I'm affraid I'm gonna break something if I force it like I did today.

I don't know....
Mine wirks with just a gentle tap. I think it is important to get the ride along.

Tell the dealer you want it fixed!! If they can't adjust it, they need to replace part of the linkage or whatever is causing the problem. I have driven several GT's and NONE of them required anything but a gentle nudge to up or down shift.

Mine is sure easy to shift either direction up or down. Just a little preasure is necessary to effect a shift.
