Smile 150,000 miles on my '03 GT Stage 1.

This week my beloved little friend will be hitting the 150K mark. Right now it has 149,840 miles on it. I have a 200 mile trip I will be taking tomorrow, so together we will reach a milestone.

I have a very slight urge in my heart to think about replacing it, but I feel like I would be throwing out an old friend. We have a lot of great history together (surprising the rice rockets tops the list) and it's the perfect car for me in terms of my needs.

Other than tires, brakes and oil changes, plus the usual stuff at 100K like timing belt and motor mounts, my PT GT stage 1, autostick has never asked for any attention. It looks like a newer car and is giving me no indications that it plans on letting me down any time soon.

The fun is still there. It still smokes the tires with TC off and it uses no oil. The stereo sounds great, it has ZERO door dings and only a few chips on the windshield. My wife says "Just keep it, then."

I'll report back at 200,000 and let you know how we're doing.

I know the feeling, when I went "shopping", "just Looking", I bought a 2006 Limited and traded in a 2002. I did get a good deal, but I find out that when I go "just Looking", I wind up "buying". If you truly are satisfied with your PT, stay away from the car dealerships.

I have never been sorry with the new NA, but it had more "git up & go" than the '02. IMHO

I love threads like this - high miles on a Stage 1 turbo car with an Autostick tranny. Sort of puts to rest all those comments that if you have an automatic in a PT the question isn't if, but when it will fail. Yes, the failure rate may be higher than normal, but most people make it sound like an inevitability. I always thought that was bunk!!

Congrats on the upcoming milestone!! Keep the car and use it for fun on the weekends - get a daily driver for, well, daily driving.

Let me say this...

I am not easy on it at all. It's been to Irwindale's 1/8th mile drag strip and done pretty well for itself. It ran a 9.71 with me in the car (6'4", 290 pounds plus I had a 100 pound Sonny Bryant crankshaft for my FC in the back. I went there just to watch a friend race his car and somehow (brain malfunction) I ended up in line for tech inspection. I don't know what came over me but it was a blast. Made 7 runs that night, but lost first round of the money bracket race when the cool weather picked up the e.t. and I broke out of my dial in of 9.78. LOL. It had almost 125K on it then.

If anyone should have broken something by now it should have been me. I will say this, though. I have backed off a little ever since the odo hit 130K. I figured I should give it a break before it gives me one.

As for getting another car for daily driving, I really have no desire for any other car. What other small car can you put 5 adults in one day and an 8 foot ladder in the next?

Have you ever been to the Street Legal Drags at California Speedway in Fontana? A group of us go there regularly and the next track day is Aug 11. Most of us hang out on PTCrew.com as that site is more performance oriented - a couple of guys recently got their PTs down to 12.1 seconds in the 1/4 mile and one of those just broke into the 11s, all without nitrous!! Those two are not SoCal based, but still, it just goes to show theres a PT contingent into going really fast in these cars.

I don't normally race the PT (yea, right). It has over 151,000 on it now. How do I post a picture? I took one of the odometer but I can't get the image icon to work.

Great news for Turbo and Non-turbo owners alike. There's a lot of us that plan to keep our cruisers till they fall apart so any long distance stories are good to hear.
