Key won't open drivers door!

It had been several months since I opened the door using the key, but when I tried it didn't work! There is a click then the door locks before it can open (the pull lock on the door visually moves up, but not fully enough to unlock). I tried the extra key with no luck. The remote lock and unlock button feature works fine, and when I disconnect the battery the key will unlock the door with no problem. Has anyone had this problem, and what was done to correct it? 2003 GT with 57,000 miles.

First thing is to try passenger door (that still has key lock for '03, doesn't it?) Or the rear hatch. I'll bet it won't work there, either, unless battery is disconnected. My guess is that the remote locking is staying at "lock" - which is why it works with battery disconnected.
I haven't heard of anything just like your problem, but there have been many who have to replace the RKEM (Remote Keyless Entry Module) - it's behind the radio. Usually the doors start to lock & unlock by themselves.
My $.02, either replace the RKEM, or live with it. You MAY want to consider a remote battery cut-out so that if the RKEM dies totally and won't let you in, you could switch off the battery and use the key.

The key will open the hatch with no problem, and it's only a problem with the drivers door (the only other key lock on the 03 GT). There has been no problem with the remote to lock, or unlock the doors.

Very strange. I thought about the "lock" switch on the door, that mabye that was stuck on "lock", but that would do the hatch, too. I would have to think maybe a short in the driver's door just to that lock?
