I'm fixing my sister's gt. Her right front wheel bearing went out, or so I thought. Once I had it apart I found the knuckle to be f'd up along with the hub. I did a search and it seems common that the factory didn't torque the axle nut down. In most cars hub/axle nuts require very little torque. I would like to avoid the same problem by correctly torquing the nut down. This problem happened at 34k miles.

I know you just said very little torque in other cars, but from my Haynes manual for Non-Turbo (so maybe it's different):
TORQUE Specification: Driveaxle/Hub nut ........180 Ft-lbs 244Nm

Torque spec is RFT. The bearing is actually pressed into the knuckle. I do bearings fairly frequently. Get ready for the other one to go bad soon.... Voice of experience.
