I called Chrysler and they told me that indeed it's covered under the Powertrain Warranty but only if the part is defective. Since the timing belt is in good shape now and the replacement is only being done as a preventive measure, that's why the dealer is telling me that the replacement will not be covered.

I don't think it is under warranty...I have the same model and year as yours and the same prob...timing belt needs changing...they said that it isn't covered under the warranty...I also have the extended service contract warranty from them...

Wow....well, I know my belt isn't broken, but it is showing wear...so I guess this is why it won't be covered.

That's stupid, preventative maintenance could potentially save the Chrysler a lot of money in head an valve repair.

I have an '03 PT, just at 100K miles. My timing belt just broke, so I recommend changing the belt prior to 100K miles. It is costing me about $700 for the timing belt, it's casing, and other gears, as well as replacing the water pump while we are there.

I have an '30 GT with 125,000. It's the original belt so it looks like I'm living on borrowed time.

The repair manual (here) indicates the the AC, motor mounts, exhaust, power steering have to be removed. Is that all necessary? And what's a good time frame?
