What mods are you running? Are you using a manual boost controller to up the boost levels? If so, you might be running too much boost and the PCM is retarding your ignition timing to keep power output at the target level.

It sounds like the guy referring to the map sensor bypass is recommending a map clamp. It is a simple device that puts a ceiling on the map sensor voltage reading so the computer does not see any boost higher than a set pressure. It's easy to install but you MUST get someone who knows what they are doing to tune the car properly. You are basically bypassing the computers ability to protect the car at high boost. You can literally destroy an engine by messing around with map clamps improperly. You can lean out the fuel mixture by running too much boost and the engine internals will explode. Be careful...

If you get a mapclamp you will need a wideband A/F gauge so you don't lean it out too much and blow your engine. Sounds like you already have a boost gauge? You'll need Stage 1 if you want to spike to 18 and also have more fuel. Before you crank up the boost are you familiar with a turbo?

I'm not seeing any mods in your public profile. Post them here in the thread so the continuity of the thread will be preserved for later readers.

Do a google search on Map Clamp. You can make your own for a few dollars but I am leary of homemade one's being able to stand the engine compartment heat. You could mount it in the passenger compartment though.
