Even if you cut through the hood. The location of those "porthole" vents is still outside the gasket area around the engine compartment. I have often wondered if removing some of the gasket at the back of each side of the engine compartment would allow some heat to escape throught the gap between the hood and the top of the front doors. I am referring to the gasket near the shock towers on each side.

The 3/4 little side vent (Port Holes) come in square shape, oval and diamond but as far as I've seen they are all fake. The theme is taken from the old Buick cars (and new Buick's) but I've seen some of the new Cadillac models sporting them.
