Default GT parts

I am contemplating the purchase of a PT Cruiser convertible and noticed that the GT model is no longer available for 2008. Does anyone know if the parts that account for the 40hp difference (180hp vs. 220hp) between the base turbo and the H.O. are available so that I can make the upgrade myself after purchase?

qbncruiser,

WELCOME to the forum. I've moved your post over to this TURBO part of the forum to let Turbo owners answer your question.

The hp difference is in the pcm programming so there is nothing you can do about it. You can, however, install Stage 1 and have the same hp/tq as a GT with Stage 1.

It is now a 50HP difference.
180 vs 230

That is assuming they do stage 1 for the 2008 models. You can't install stage 1 from another year model.

And remember...

If they do a Stage 1 chip for the 08 turbo, and you do install it, you MUST use 92-93 octane gas. Ouch!

He would have had to use 91 to 93 anyway on a GT if there was one available, and I don't think that extra $2.00 a tank for 93 over 87 will break anybodies wallet, or that it is not worth the extra 65 ft-lbs of torque 60+ hp that the Stage 1 gives on the newer 180hp Turbo models.

Wow, unlike most everyone in US watching regular gas prices head over the $3 a gal mark again, you seem to be free of any worry about how much a fill up is. Good for you!

You're right, $2 bucks won't break "anybodies" (anyone's?) wallet. But if money is an issue, it's something some people might want to consider.

Your right, I don't worry about the price of gas, as it would do no good to worry about it. But in this day when some people pay $2.00 or $3.00 for a bottle of the same water that comes from most city taps, Or a video rental, I still don't see the big deal of .15 to .20 cents more a gallon for gas for a 10 to 12 gallon fill up! Our gas is still cheaper than most other countries even our friends in Canada pay a lot more than we do! And if money was a problem, then why would anyone ask about improving performance, as it sure is not free?

But by your comments, and your need to correct my grammar you surely are a worry wart!

Not worrying about your grammar, just giving you the benefit of my public education that I had gotten over 36 years ago in 8th grade!
