Default Gas mileage

Just bought a 2007 Convertible GT totally stock, can't beleive I waited so long to do this! The PT is a ball to drive. I'm concerned about the milage I'm getting - 15 mpg and this is while driving very gently and resisting the urge to punch it. My car only has 1800 miles on it. Does this factor into the milage I'm getting? Will it get any better? I also get a hesitation (or hicuup) when slowly accelerating from a standing start. Any ideas what could be causing this?

My 5 speed 2005 GT Convertible gets about 25 mpg in mixed highway and local driving. It does a little better if you are cruising at 65 mph. However, if you drive aggressively it will not get very good gas mpg. It is not an economy car.

As for the hesitation I would bring it back to the dealer and let them worry about it.

Once you get about 3K miles on and all gets broke in and when and if you drive it on long trips, you'll find that the mileage will improve. I now get 24-26 on highway trips. 17-19 city driving. Idling at traffic light kills any kind of mileage. The PT has been described as a "brick/barn door" on wheels, it also is a heavy car!

I was frivolous in September and bought a 2005 PT cruiser convertible with 17k on it. My gas mileage scares me. It is a turbo. Can I get one of those TORNADO gadgets for a pt cruiser turbo? are they just a scammer item. BTW this car is so much fun to drive but again. I have begun to watch rpm's as I drive (leadfoot middle aged woman going thru a convertible stage) Last fill up I got 19.87 mpg, that bites All suggestions are appreciated.

I was always taught to check the basics; air filter, plugs (and gap), wire set etc... When I changed my plugs (and there are MANY posts on plug types and gaps), and put good wires on (also many posts on the poor quality chrysler wire sets), I notice a great improvement in performance.

Also look around at all the vacuum hoses to make sure their all connected.

Don't expect to get great mileage; I've got 100K miles on my 03 GT and usually get about 26 HighWay and 23-24 mixed. It sucks but I've read worse.

15mpg doesn't sound right, even if new but check the basics.

Post back to let us know how you made out....

Good Luck - Duff

My wife's '06 GT gets about 19 MPG. In her case the culprit is her own right foot. You have to excuse her, she is coming to a PT after 20 years in a Mustang V8 - but the PT GT has MORE horsepower (230 vs 210) but less torque (245 vs 285).

Also, It may be that if your car is rated for premium gas and you are using mid-grade or worse, your computer is dialing the timing w-a-y back, which is sure not good for the engine, the power or the mileage. If you want good economy - you have to pay for it! Use premium!

I have the same problem. I have 2006 PT Convertable GT

If I don't use premium gas I will get 14 to 16 mpg

If I use premium then I will get 16 to 19 mpg -- I haven't broken the 20 mark as of yet.

I also notice that you cannot wait to get an oil change it doesn't like going over 3,000 mark very much -- And it prefers Synthetic over regular oil.
