It is good to see this mod still being used.
I have Modded this procedure since the original instructions.

I was watching the lower intake silencer... It hit mee, Cut off the silencer 1 1/2" from the holding tab... It fits right back into the airbox, you keep the angled snorkle but no silencer!!!

I will take a picture and post it.

Ian

Quote from ZZ Cruiser:

My understanding is that nothing done to (1) the air intake (2) the exhaust sytem BEYOND the cat and (3) the oil (as long as within the minimum lube guidelines) will "void the warrany".

It wouldn't hurt any of us to familiarize ourselves with the wording and intent of that portion of the owners manual the states our "owner freedoms". The right to keep and bear lubricants, to change filters to the brand and color of our liking without bias, and the right to muffle one if by land and two if by sea.....

(About 3/4 through yur Owners manual.)

Ian, why didn't I think of that. I cut mine off even with the interior of the airbox. I think I will try your idea though. I still have to complete the new connection from the airbox to the turbo to get rid of the baffles in that part. I have a reducing elbow for the turbo end that takes a 3" tube and reduces it through the curve to a 2.5" dia. to connect to the turbo inlet. I need to get the tube to run up to a 45 degree connector to the aribox.

I will take pictures and post them tomorow for sure.
What I like about this change is that you retain the snorkle, and it is less warm air going into the engine.

I did that when I removed the white silencer from the air box. I had pictures and everything but I lost it all in my HD crash. Seems to work OK for me.

I removed the snorkel completely and will try that for a few days to see if warm air negatively affects performance.

I am debating whether to leave the snorkel out (and risk taking in warmer air) or just masking the snorkel baffle with electical tape.

Basically, is the warmer, wider intake opening better than the smaller, 90-degree bend, cooler intake?

When I tested this mod on the track, I gained .30 sec at the lights... I first did 15.65 with all the silencers. With them out, 15.35...

You decide

You know if you look at where the snorkel end sits, it looks like it is drawing air exclusively from the wheel well area, but if you look closer you will see that the little bump of metal that is elbows to has one of it's sides just open into the engine bay anyhow. I put some tape over that large hole on the side to try to block some of that hot air.

I thought of doing that, but I think that would constrict the air flow.
