Well if DC had seen fit to have the car run as it should none of us would have screwed around with mbc. For $50.00 I have a manual Gt that flat out pulls from start to over 120 mph with boost starting about 1/4 throttle . If I occasionally reset battery so be it . From what I've read stage 1 eliminates need for mbc . My personal problem is what stage 2 will actually offer and for how much ...then I'll decide which way I'll potentially void my remaining warranty . I really wanted stage 1 but keep thinking then I'd want stage 2 when announced . So for now it's mbc for me !

Flashback2 I totally agree with you. I bought stage 1 because I HAVE NO PATIENCE AT ALL. I still run my DSMBC though. I only use it at WOT in 3rd or 4th (Autostick). But even without it she still pulls hard all the way to top speed (whatever that is) When stage 2 comes out, well I'll just have to wait & see......

We,I for one am sometimes viewed as over critical of DCX. However, for a new engine design and a radically different approach to computer programming, I can admit that a cautious entry approach was probably the best decision.
The engine looks to be good for a lot more than we are getting; even with Stage I. From what I can read (from between the lines) there was a large budget for the 2.5L Turbo design, to make up for lost time on a late decision to commit. For that reason, we have an engine that is unique in that it is way over engineered for the application, and should be mechanically reliable for a long time to come. I can see it as a platform for a lot of performance applications, and wonder where it will end up if DCX does go with the Mitsubishi 6-cylinder, rear-wheel drive platform in 2005 or 2006. Now, if the PCM programming team would get the same budget (and attention), we may really take the industry by surprise. Presently, Mopar Performance is taking up their slack on this project, and doing a good job with it. This car will tune up better from behind a programmer's keyboard than at the end of a mechanic's wrench. This is a view to the future that is hard to accept, but I think this concept is here to stay... Hopefully the market will introduce items that will narrow this gap; bolt-ons that co-operate with the programming scheme to increase performance without throwing the PCM Into a loop trying to un-do their effects. I aagree that the battery reset and a MBC is a cheap alternative to Stage I, while waiting on Stage II, but I let my curiosity get the best of me and went ahead with Stage I. I wish someone would verify the proper mileage interval or run time for the PCM to complete a full diagnostic cycle of all monitored data, so we would know at what point the battery reset window opens. I think a figure of around 140 miles may be the magic number, but have little to base that on in factual terms. |

My P1188 is still there, except this time along with the trouble code the car developped a tranny leak (3100Km). Dealer's contractor in my town resealed the pan but still leaking. He suspects a cracked seam. Baby the car to my closest DC dealer 3 hrs and a ferry ride away, and also have him look at the P1188 code. Told me leaks are around the pan bolts, rtn hose and other parts higher up the tranny housing but no crack seam, thanks god. He said he spend hours talking to DC engineer and told they are aware of the code, but currently no fix for it. By the way I was told I am responsible for the replacement tranny fluid as it is not a warranty item. Call DC customer service and told me the answer. Suck. Fun car but quality ????? lousy customer and dealer service. Definity need a lot of improvement to be at par with other domestic and import.

I've had P1188 for weeks. This morning, I drive 5 miles.Park, come back in 5 minutes , startup car and am treated to massive hesitation an surging. New code ,P0129 , pops up. Straight to dealer repair. 8 hours later, they say they flashed PCM for a TSB regarding the problem but wouldn't say which one. Check light's out. Fingers crossed, but not holding breathe that it won't happen again.

P0129 is the other side of the TIP; Barometric pressure. The TIP also measures Barometric Pressure; it's function is contolled by one of the solenoids oin the passenger side strut tower.
This is the TSB that my stealership swears doesn't exist. Glad you have a local service area that knows which way is up. |

I been told my the mechanic, to drive the car in 3rd gear and only use the 4th gear when driving on the hwy. Tried telling him it doesn't matter what I do with the autostick, the code will come on whenever it encounter a low rmp cruise and overboost condition. Wonder he will do a PCM flash on spec.

Guys,
So far I haven't had the troubles that you lot have had. However, I wouldn't state that DC are not on par with other domestic and imports. If you've ever had to deal with the whole purchase/service of an import I can't see how you would say that DC is worse...other domestics? Tell my dad who owns a 2002 GMC Envoy with rear view mirrors that change by themselves while driving, an engine that decides to rev like crazy for no apparant reasons some times when starting among other problems...the GM dealership is clueless, as is GM Canada (often state that there is no TSB when I have it in my hands!!!). I know it's no consolidation for your situation, but the quality is on par or better than most domestics and imports. Cheers, LIP

you are still talking about domestic. own imports most of life never have as much problems as I had for a new car under 5000km. 3 visit for leaky tranny, which is still leaking but not as bad, 4 visits for code reset and followup with no result. My toyota had one visit for faulty clock and ran faultlessly for 280,000km. Nissan Quest had a recall for leaky rad hose and fuel neck and 1 repeat warranty service for a blower motor and selector. These were supply by Ford. Doesn't it make you wonder about domestic service and quality?
