Default Snapped Drive shaft

I heard of a GT stick snapping an axle. Jim told me that it happened on a 5speed who had the boost raised.

Well one of of the SRT-4 guys had his snap too. BUT he had about 3500 miles and he was bone stock. Never took it to the track etc. So I think the reason for both of these snapping is due to a bad shaft. I know of another shop who snapped it but they had modified the car and had drag radials on it. Even still, i think it should be able to hold.

That would really suck. Did DC cover the stock one under warranty? Up your boost or race it and they'll laugh and say "What warranty?" Not good to hear both SRT-4 and GT having this problem. Casting problem?

i think it may just be a torque problem. You'd have to be launching pretty damn hard though, possibly with either drag radials/slicks, or a kickass LSD. There was actually a thread way back about this, and if i remember correctly someone found a company making aftermarket drive shafts...

Don't know about about bad axels, just got back from Neon 2K3 at the Neon plant in IL. Sent an afternoon and evening at Route 66 Drag strip and we snapped 5 axels and blew one 5 speed tranny. It the traction is good and the power is there, you will break an axel or two, or five.

If the CV joints are engineered for less torque or the steel in the axles of poorer quality, this is the future. Most hot rodders opt for Porsche CVs and nodular aftermarket shafts.

If you're busting axles like that, what are you replacing them with? These?

After reading this, I'd get my driveshafts replaced pronto if I were draggin'... especially since I would not have any support staff or tow vehicle with me.

As far as the tranny goes, are the Neon's the New Venture design? What's so special about the Getrag's? A technical comparison article on these trannys would be helpful.

Finally, popping the OEM clutch gives me the creeps. What's a mild drag yet streetable upgrade with a billet flywheel? I see Howell has several.
