Well my throw out bearing seems cooked...knocking in neutral and whining when shifting..noticeable from 2nd to 3rd. If I'm going to have it fixed I will just buy a clutch kit and replace it all. Thinking of using Aamco. They quoted me about $400 to drop the tranny, open it and see whats what.
My questions are: 1. what should the labor cost for a clutch replacement? 2. I'm looking for a good daily driver clutch that will last....So would a Sachs clutch be good...or a Centerforce? I have an 03 with Hurst shifter, stage 1, Borla exhaust, plastic manifold, airbox mod, turbo to air box AMX pipe, grounding kit....about it....don't plan on many more mods. thanks |

As it turns out.....I had another mechanic test drive the car....he did not believe there was anything wrong with it...I could keep driving it. He said there was no risk of damaging it. He did not believe there was anything wrong with the throw out bearing. He told me if he dropped the tranny he highly doubts he would find anything that needs replacing...He owns a local transmission shop and has been in business for over 20 years...I'm going with his prognosis. He also recommended a Luk clutch should mine ever need replacing. He said he does not want to have to do a job twice and has been using Luk clutches for 20 years. I will continue to drive the car. I did replace the tranny fluid with the Mopar ATF-4 yesterday. Fingers crossed and moving forward.

mines ben that way for thousands of miles now....no problems...i really only noticed it when i started parking car in garage...i could hear it louder....i am of the belief you should ignore it. at least until it gets much louder....my experience tells me honest tranny places will tell you to drive it until it dies...and crooked places will want $500 just to drop the tranny, open it up and have a look see.
