Default will wraping the turbo pipes stop balloning

aside from paying a few hundred for hard pipes - can we wrap them in black duct tape or heat tape to stiffen them - or is this a bad idea - ( not to concerned on looks )

it's not just balloning but also the collapse of the lower pipe especially. i'd start with switching that pipe, and work on the others as you can afford them

You should give it a try.
The only negative is adding a few grams weight and reducing the heat radiation co-eficcient of the hose, which is poor compared to steel tube anyway.

Many of the hydraulic systems I worked on used to use once peice moulded hoses and I borrowed some of them for my turbo'd ford, worked well. anything that's designed to be stiff and take 35psi would work.

When added an intercooler to my turbo set up on my ford I mocked up and even ran for an hour with my borrowed CAT hydraulic hose peices and plastic stuff from a home improvement store, think it was for chemical toilets!
