Exclamation NEED HELP ASAP

Hello,

This is my first time posting, so please direct me elsewhere if this is not the correct areas to find answers in.

First of all, I just bought an '04 PT GT and the steering wheel shakes a lot when I get on the freeway and accelerate anywhere from 65-85 mph. What is the problem that causes this shaking, how much does it cost to get fixed, and where do u recommend getting it fixed at?

Second, my PT is hesitant when starting...it doesn't want to turn over right away. Again, what is going on here?

Welcome to the forum.

You say you just bought it. From a private owner, used car lot or Chrysler dealer? Any kind of warranty? If your on your own with nobody to complain to, Bob gave you some good advise. Have the car tuned up, wheels balanced and throw in an alignment. As to where to take it and how much it will cost, that would depend on where you go for service. Check you local paper for ads from auto service places. They are always running ads for particular services like what you need.

Good start Bob.

Is your car an auto?
I'd also have the front and rear rotors checked, hard braking then holding on the brakes can create hot spots that warp discs so happens more on auto's tham manual cars.
This creates sysmptoms like you say, ok up to 60mph ish then the warped disc hits the natural frequency of something in the car and a noisy wobble starts.

Is it worse if you brake at that speed and just below?
If so, it's defnately pointing to warped rotors.

Welcome... and don't worry, we'll help you fix it!

Thumbs up Re: NEED HELP ASAP

My PT is an '04 Turbo w/ an Automatic Transmission...only 63,000 miles

As for the steering wheel shaking, it only shakes between 65-85 mph on the freeway, NOT WHEN I USE THE BRAKES! Do you think that the rotors need to be replaced? I also read about CV joints or something like that...what do you think it is?

Also, in regards to the car hesitating to start...do you think I need the spark plugs and wires replaced? Could it be something worse like the starter or fuel pump?

Thanks again for all the advice!

If the wobble doesn't get worse with braking it's not down to the rotors, something else is out of ballance.

It has to be something that's rotating and is after the gear box output so I would say Bob's earlier suggestion of wheels is first on the list to get checked.
It could be an out of balance drive shaft that has taken a knock too.

When you get the wheel balance checked I'd ask them to check the wheel bearings and alingment too. I'm sure the one trip to the shop should locate the problem.

I've had no problems with the std plugs & leads, but many have, If you plan to do any mods to the performance of your PT then good quality plugs and ugraded leads would be needed anyway so I'd try some to help your starting issue.

If you take your plugs out, take a photo and check the gap, that may tell the folks here if your issue is related to fuel or spark.
