Mine just statted doing it today. Only 5100 miles on it. It is not very noisy, but its there, not all of the time either. My girlfriend was in the car with me and said "Why dont you just put WD-40 on it?" Would this work?

Based on my experience, putting anything on the boot will do little or no good. That was the first thing the dealer tried and it lasted less than 100 feet.

Well nothing new to report for me. The dealer bled and refilled the steering system and again all seemed well until this morning. When I started the car cold the squealing returned. I guess I'll just have to live with this. At least when the car warms up the noise quiets down.

Anyone else get any action on this??

[|)]Hey guys, I took mine in at 6100 miles for oil and told the service manager about the nylon sliding noise. When the oil change was complete he imformed me that the Rack and Pinion had to be replaced. It took ~2 weeks to get it in, but they replaced it under warranty and the noise is gone (now at ~7500 miles).

KCsBlueGt, replaced with what? the exact same rack and pinion? Is the rack and pinion that came with the car defective or is it just not strong enough to handle the engine torque? Does anyone know if they are beefing up the rack and pinion? I am hoping chyrsler will fix this and not just keep putting the same part in over and over. Is chrysler aware that there is a problem with the steering boxes/rack and pinion on the turbos?

Yeah it seems replacing the steering gear is the answer for the nylon scraping noise. However my pump is still noisy and I am not having much luck convincing the dealer of this. The problem seems to be that when the car warms up the noise dies down and they don't hear it. Guess I'll live with it till it fails completely.[:0]

I am not sure if it is a beefed up gear or not. I had it up on a lift and the tech showed me the new gear but I have no basis for comparison as I did not see the old one.

i Kinda get a high pitch whistle when I hold a turn. Fluid level is ok, wondering if it is the rack.

The steering noise was evident on my '01 Limited and have the same noise on the GT. This suggests that this is an ongoing problem and has nothing to do with the extra horsepower.

looking back on it now I can say that I did notice that whistle early on. Then it progressed to the "nylon rubbing" sound. It was at this point that I was told the rack and pinion had to be replaced. Since the replacement the whistle returned for about a week and is now gone again. It has been about 3 months since I have heard the whistle. The rubbing sound has NOT returned. I would reccomend that you at least have it checked out.
