I am considering getting a 07 cruiser convertible and have looked at the base models and turbo. Does anyone have any advice on which is best and what the difference in gas mileage would be b/w the two? Any info good and bad is greatly appreciated.

Welcome.
I recommend the 180HP turbo. It takes regular gas, and gets decent mileage. The GT turbo requires premium gas. I had a "normal" PT and now the "turbo lite", and the turbo lite actually gets a bit better mileage and the extra pep when you need it is really great.

Quicksilver, thanks for the response. I currently have a new beetle and get about 25mpg in town and I really would like to get something comparitable in mileage. I'm beginning to think I should look for something else but I really like the looks of the convertible.

If you can do a manual, your chances are better of getting comparable mileage, and performance is better, too - you could save a lot of money - manual is cheaper, and you could forgo the turbo.

I had the Lt. turbo and now the GT HO. I like the power of the GT but hate using premium gas. I would probably have gotten the Lt. turbo again had I knew then what I know now about gas prices. The Lt. turbo was a nice engine and tooled up just fine when you wanted the extra power. My gas mileage was the same for both cars at about 20 mpg. combined. The PT is a great car and you really can't go wrong with whatever you choose.

There are a couple of things you need to think about if you really like the PT. Everyone will tell you the gas mileage is bad on the PT, I really don't think it's that bad if you look at cars just a few years ago. Back in 78 I had a Bandit Trans Am and I was lucky to get 17-18 in the highway @ 55 mph and 12 in the city but my 07 PT GT convertible gets 26 on the highway @ 70 and 20 in the city. And the PT will blow the doors off my old trans am. But you asked about a 07 convertible. There are about 80% more turbo lite converibles then GT convertibles and if you are a car junkie would be a lot happier with the GT since it has just about everything on it as in stock upgrades from a plain jane PT convertible. GT is a lot more rarer and harder to find and I feel it would be worth a lot more then a turbo lite in a few years. Remember you get what you pay for and whatever your wallet can handle. But even with high gas prices the GT convertible will put a HUGE smile on my face and it's very comfortable on long trips and thats hard to beat in a lot of cars and it looks VERY COOL. Chrysler doesn't make then anymore and the price just goes up.. I will never buy another hardtop! I hope this helps.

Hello
from Nova ScotiaThanks all for the good and helpfull advice. Not been here long but it seems like a great place to hang. I am picking up my NEW 2006 PT gt convertible today.267k/165 miles. The extra horse power will be great but I picked the GT because of all the extra goodies.Lucky for me I am a wee bit large ,so all I have to do is skip and 8 pack of beer and a few snacks a week and it makes paying for premium gas easier ![]() |
