Default Anybody ever had this happen?

I just filled up with gas and the gauge needle went to empty and the low fuel icon came on, then the needle went to full and it's going back and forth, Now the check engine came on and it's staying on. Car runs fine no other symptions.
Is this a problem that anybody has experienced before.
As always thanks for all your help!!!

it's your fuel sending unit in the fuel pump. if you want to get it fixed, it's around 300.00.

There have been some postings where the gauge needles fluctuate when starting and the remedy has been a new battery. Go to a auto shop and get the battery checked as it would be cheaper. I'm NOT saying it isn't the sending unit, but it is a thought.

Thanks for that info, that's why I came to the experts.
Will the car be Ok to drive till the tank is more empty or is the fuel pump on it's way out? And will I hurt it as the engine light is on?
Thanks again!!!

agree with what both said ^^^^^^

if its just the fuel needle jumping it the sending unit.
if all are jumping speedo, tach, fuel, temp.
then check the batt, something may be not grounded

good luck.

Well today the needle stopped jumping around and the check engine light went out, so I guess it fixed itself. Wednesday I'm going to my buddies shop and hook it up to the computer, he said any codes would still be there, and I'll go from there. I'll let everybody know what the outcome is.
Thanks for all suggestions and help. I have found another great place to help with this new ( to me ) car stuff. All my other stuff is a couple of decades older.

i did in my 04 GT. it randomly come and goes. when it does, i just have the trip meter up and add gas every 200 miles. it only happened this past winter and hasn't come back since. do you run your tank down till the light comes on? if you do that could be your problem. the pump uses the fuel to keep it cool. if you let it get too low your going to sieze the pump.nothing below 1/4 tank and your fine.

I took it to my buddies shop today and they put the scan tool on it, Got a couple of codes but nothing concrete. Said it probably wigged out ( their words ). It was really low before I filled up and they think it was the resistor on the fuel sender. Their advice was don't let it go too low or top it off and it should be OK. I always reset the trip mileage when I fill up.
Thanks again for the replies and advice
