Ok I haven't checked for a code yet as I just got them. Here's the lowdown: 2 days ago my wife was driving home and car started lurching and engine light came on steady, checked the owners manual and it said emmissions related. Replaced a dirty air cleaner and breather sponge. Light went out drove fine. It happened again today. Anyone have a similar issue?(can't check code till she gets home later, just trying to get a head of it.)
Thanks |

My guess is that it is a P0340 or P0344 code. This is a crankshaft or camshaft sensor error. It has been happening a lot to me lately. When the error comes up, the engine stops doing any timing adjustment and you get misfires. I found if you are very gentle on the gas, the car will run albeit with less power.
I have replaced both those sensors and the MAP sensor and still have problems. I learned yesterday that there is a TSB about false error codes that requires an update to the engine computer. I took my car to the dealer this morning and I have the latest software but I still have the problem. The dealer was puzzled. I drive with my OBD scanner in the car and reset the computer when it comes up.

The code I get is P0344-camshaft Position Sensor Intermittent. The camshaft sensor has been replaced did not help. Can it be a bad cam magnet the dealer sells them $20.00 .

New cam magnet is in and no code so far so good.

Remove the camshaft Position Sensor then you will see the cam magnut it is fastened to the end of the cam shaft. One torques head screw is through the centre of the magnut. My dealers parts guy had never sold or seen one before.
