My 03 GT has a whining (sounds like turbo spooling) only in third gear and when im accelerating... it goes away when my foot is off the gas. Im not sure if there is a link between the two but i also get a light "rapping" sound when my foot is off the clutch at idle and goes away when i press the clutch. the tranny is not even two years old and barely has 20k on it

The throw out bearing may require adjustment if it isn't bad. It should not make contact with the clutch fingers as it will cause premature wear. As the clutch plate wears the fingers of the clutch plate will move towards the throw out bearing requiring the adjustment.

Hi, as far as I know the throw out bearing (i.e. release bearing) can not be adjusted.
At the GT the throw out bearing and the slave cylinder of the clutch is a one-piece machanism mounted inside the bell housing of the gearbox. It can only be changed as a complete spare part, which can only be done when the whole gearbox and the clutch are removed. well everyone that has heard it is telling me throw out bearing .... that sucks.... looks like im upgrading the clutch this winter

Hi,
changing the clutch and/or the bearing is a lot of work, Chrysler says its 5 1/2 hours. If you only have the rappling sound, I don't know if it's worth it. But if you have troubles when shifting, eg a slight "bang" when shifting in first at standstill, of a scratching feel when shiftig up from first to second, then I would not recommend to wait (or drive it) any longer to avoid gearbox damage. Concerning the whine in 3rd gear, mine had that too a few days ago, when it was rather cold. I don't think it has something to do with the clutch, if you feel or hear nothing of the described other symptoms. Anyway, there are many different clutch upgrades available in the States (unfortunately not here in Europe) ... LuK, Sachs, Centerforce, Good luck!

Figures..... i diag one problem now my wheel bearings are gone... i feel like im driving on the "wake up" strip on the side of the highway.... my shop is gonna do it but its still gonna cost me $300 with my employee discount
