Hey gang,
Just an observation - I have been lurking a bit and I've been noticing a lot of people seem to have other turbo dodges (in their sigs) sweeeet. It looks like most have been modified (like me) and we are now working on the next generation in the form of PT turbos ![]() Cheers Trevor '03 PT GT '95 Neon DOHC ACR '86 Omni GLH T2 |

One of my dream cars would be a nice show condition 87 GLHS, and/or a nice Silver 92 Spirit R/T.
I've owned an 86 Shelby Charger Turbo and loved it.I still don't believe that the factory 140HP rating on those was correct.Felt like *way* more.

Demographics show that there is such a thing as "Brand Loyalty", the trick is to get customers to buy the first one. It's really simple on the front end: design a quality product that solves real world problems and stand behind the product. This seems to be easier said than done. Money and egos distort reality and you end up with products that meet corporate needs, but not the customer's.
Look at the Misfire (Crossfire).....antequated DC mechanicals retiring from service in their own sports car because they don't measure up to today's technology, but perfect for a punch drunk, robot company anxious to show sometning or anything beneficial about the merger that was really a takeover. (DC's head thought it would go down easier if we thought it was something more than a one way street.) This car was so quickly slapped togeather that over six footers don't fit. What could Chrysler have done with the money thrown away here making another Thunderbird that will be out of production in less than 2 years? Just plain silly! Even that, auto magazines are biting their lip (I imagine it is hard not to quote demeaning one liners on this one) when they talk about the lack of power and the old mechanicals! |

Honestly, Kirby, I have read quite a bit on the Crossfire in the press and haven't heard anything but kudos on it.It's basically a blend of MD E-Class driveline and I believe the suspension is based on a design common to some MB.The only thing that I have noticed that I personally don't like is that there is a silver 'band' that wraps around the entire front windshield.kind of looks like a reinforced convertible windshield, so I don't know if this is for structural reasons, or something else, but on anything but a silver car it looks kind of tacky.Other than that, like I said, I don't see anything wrong with the car.

Read between the lines, remarks like slightly under powered, or "a $35,000 sportscar from Chrysler?" are thinnly veiled ways to back out of any kind of endorsement. You have to chuckle a little... when was it that anyone touted recirculating ball steering (I think it came out in the 30s or 40s). The truth is that american buyers have never supported expensive sports cars that don't perform (GM and Ford have both tried and failed), add to it the fact that no one has trained staff to fix a Mercedes and the parts bin will be thinner than my wallet. The Chrysler sales staff has enough trouble describing a car as self evident as a PT (my salesman said that the PT had fully indipendant suspension). A stage 1 PT will also outperform the crossfire.
As well intentioned as it may have begun, this is a monumental waste of time and energy to suit corporate needs. I guess that I am a little pissed that they designed a car that I don't even fit into; at 6'2" and 220 lbs. I don't think that I am all that far from the average car buyer. |
