Default Whacky temp gauge - SES light

P0117 Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Circuit Low Voltage
2004 Limited - K&N filter only mod.

Car "overheated" today - I stopped popped the hood - none of the obvious signs were there (that is - not a ton of heat from the engine compartment, no knocking) no drips or puddles or any coolant running anywhere. resevoir was full to "Hot". I even took of the fill cap and had pressure (not a ton, only lost about 6 oz of coolant) - coolant was full up to the rim. THe coolant was slightly moving even - as if the pump was working. Coolant was warm, but nowhere near boiling hot.

So I got 2 gallons of water just in case and drove on with the heat at full blast. It never changed temp, never got way hot, never got cold - None of the signs of overheating were there.

During the drive the gauge kept going to full hot, then normal for a bit, then full hot again, then to full cold, then to normal for a bit, then for a long stretch it stayed at full cold, then back to full hot.

So combined with the above code thats set - I need to check out the ECT sensor circuit. Anyone have any tips - like for starters - where is the ECT itself, and where does it plug into the ECM? Anyone know of any particular harnesses that have gone bad on them?

Best Regards, and thanks in advance.
