Default Gas Consumption

Today was the first day i really got into the gas pedal, while on the highway, during a merge and 15 min run, at a very illigal speed ( I know, i know) I coulkd almost watch the gas gauge move.

p.s. this thing does fly.
p.s.s I chickened out before hitting the rev limiter.

Check your gas mileage numbers now and then after your first oil change (I'll plug synthetic here).

In reference of Your topic, would anybody tell me what to do with this terrible gas milege - my wife's car 2003 turbo just selebrated 1y.o., has 8000 miles on odo, k@n air f., k@n oil f., mobil 1, and she is definitly not f1 pilot. Sometimes, usualy when she need to wash it or pump the gas, i take it for a day for check drive - beauty runin' like cream-puff, but gas milege killin' all the pleasure - never seen nothing better than 11.8 mpg. Ironically we just sold her 96 suburban with approx.the same gas milege and were thinkin' that gt would be reasonably gas and money saver. Meanwile my 2002trans am ramair 5.7 averagin' 17.1 mpg. please any opinions, suggestions - deeply appreciated![V][:I]

Gee! I would say something is up. We have about 6000 miles on our 2003 GT now and my wife drives it mostly to and from work (about an 18 mile suburban round trip). She is averaging 22-23mpg. We have only made one extend hi-way trip with the car (when it had about 1000 miles) and got stuck in stop and go traffic for at least 45 minutes. It averaged just shy of 25 mpg.

I agree with dgc333. Something is way wrong. I've had my turbo for 13 months and the worst I have ever gotten was the week I installed the Stage 1 upgrade. That week I got 13.7 MPG, but it included a lot of playing (read: punching it) and 15 passes down the drag strip!

My daily commute is 26 miles stop and go city driving and I usually get about 245 miles per fill up, netting a little over 18 MPG. I have only been on a couple of longer highway type trips, but averaged about 23 MPG on those. As those who know me, I am not about mileage when I drive my cruiser. While I don't really speed excessively, I rarely baby it.

I would say it's time to take your cruiser to the dealer and have it checked.

The addition of the BTG cat back dual exhaust changed my mileage significantly. I now get just under 27 mpg on trips to and from Las Vegas (speeds from 70 to 110). My around town drops to about 17 to 18, but I do like to pull away at stops with a little gusto. Running the air conditioning drops the mileage another couple points too.

I maintain good records on all my vehicles, and as of today when I filled up I have 5005 miles on the odo, and have purchased exactly 216.43 gallons of fuel, $419.58 of premium. That is an average of 23.12 miles per gallon for the life of my car. Car was purchased on April 6, 2003 with 6 miles on the odo, and less than a quarter tank of fuel on the gauge.

Kirby - I first changed oil & filter at 1801 miles (June 1) to Mobil 1, with no difference in m.p.g., but still happy with greater peace of mind.
Just changed the oil again today, Mobil 1.

I'm wondering if my code 456 is the cause of my gas consumption, the stealer says the parts on order to fix it.

We average around 17.5-18.5 in town and have done as well as 19mpg. On the road at 80 mph it rarely ever gets better than 22.5, although we did have a couple of 24+ mpg runs on our recent trip, but they were downhill...lol[8)]! (We live in Florida[8D]) We didn't really think it was going to be an econo-car anyway, and even our Corvette gets better mileage. It just wouldn't hold all our junk in it for the trip. The PT does do better than our Astro van though at 16/20 it was never an economy deal either.

wagonmaster, your mileage is about what I get. On trips we are right at 22.5 mpg with or without air! Expected more on open road but we do keep it at 80 so maybe we are pushing a lot of air! About 20 around town but I rarely go on it for a long time in town! Have to check mileage now that I have my new intake from K&N!
