Talking 03 dream cruiser turbo

Hi I am brand new here, I stumbled upon this site trying to figure out what is wrong with my wifes baby. We have an 03 dream cruiser turbo and it has started a whistle or whine that I cannot find. it starts when the engine gets warm. There is no loss of power and it sounds like it is coming from the rear of the engine. Is there anyone out there who could help or at least commisorate with me

There's lots of reason given during search. If you go to Google and type in "PT Cruiser turbo whistle", loads of threads come up talking about the owner hearing a whistle and lots of different answers.

Hey cruzerchris,

Welcome to the Forum! You might check the air box just to make sure it is secure, and the air intake hose is secured well. Their are three plastic silencers that keep the Turbo whine quieted down. One is in the Air inlet hose, one is a big white plastic doughnut looking thing located in the air box under the air filter, and the third one is in the hose leading to the Turbo itself. I would think those three areas would be a good place to start at least. Their are a couple good tech guys that hang in here pretty regular and can probably offer some more advise if that does'nt work for you.

Also, if you don't mind me asking, what serial number is yours, and can I get you to maybe post a pic, and a bit about yours? My 03 Dream is #0377, and I have been working on kind of putting together a bit of a Registry to see if I can track as many 03 Dreams as I can. Here is a pic of mine.

She is kind of a bit modified, but still a Dream.

Anyways, the other guys should chime in before too long I recon.

Go easy, and I hope to see you around.

Candyman...first of all my cruiser is not even close to being worthy as yours...your PT is beyond awsome. Thanks for the advise. I will check the air box. My Cruiser number is 1153. We call it Harley orange with orange and black leather interior. I'll get a picture up soon. Thanks again Chris

You using synthetic oil in that puppy? Regular oil thins when it gets warm, synthetic takes heat better - a whine could be turbo bearing (hope not), but synthetic is just about mandatory for a turbo...

Did you ever figure out your whine problem ? I used to have an 87 Turbo Lebaron GTS, and that turbo whined and whined, until the seals blew on it.

I also have a Dream Cruiser series 2. Mines 1515.

Well I tried the fixes suggested..air box...synthetic oil and the whine died down a little. I used the stick to the ear on the turbo method and did not hear any whining it sounds like it is coming from the belt. It does not start until it gets to temp. It goes away while accelerating comes back when coasting. The A/C is not working I think it has aleak could that be the issue??? By the way your PT is my PT's twin brother same color....

check your valve cover to airbox hose. it sounds like you have air pressure build up in your valve cover. it's a hose that come off the right side of the valve cover and goes into the airbox. it is an oil blowby line. it could be caked with old oil and blocking flow, causing the pressure build up in the valve cover.

My 03' Dreamcruiser is #0513. Right now my A/C is not working and I'm trying to search this forum to see if I can fix it myself and save some money. The blower is working, but I can definitely tell that the A/C compressor is not. Usually I hear a sound and the load when the compressor kicks in during a/c use.

Any input is highly appreciated.

Usually needs refrigerant. Try a place that specialises in A/C. I've read you can only charge it with it running....
