Default Compass Problems, Anyone?

It's not like I really use it - but it annoys me that I'm always going South or East. I didn't notice the problem until a week after I had my last check engine episode, which they fixed with a temp sensor and some futzing with the ECU. Dealer sez it's not related but I'm having it checked out when it goes in for it's oil change tomorrow.
Anybody else having issues with their compass?

Mine started reading 180 degrees off about a month ago. I haven't taken the time to muck around with it yet.

tezz, the manual gives instructions for recalibrating the compass. You may want to try that. There is also a warning about using an magnetic mount antenna on the roof since they will mess up the compass readings.

thanks for the suggestions - I didn't even THINK of looking in the manual. The dealer recalibrated it free while it was there for the oil change.

I had the same problem with mine when I took it apart to paint..
The way you put it in is not how you think (sliding it on a small flat piece of steel to lock in), but to turn it so a little tab sticks in a small hole on the top.

hard to explain with words

Kroozah,

When you say the compass goes on differentln one would think, can you tell me which side faces back (i.e., the smooth side) when it is clipped on?

The reason I asked is I have taken it off and on several times, and while it works propoerly, I have never been satisfied with how secure it clips on and have added a piece of electrical tape around the metal clip and the compass module to keep it secure. perhaps I have it on backwards?

Thanks, Chuck.
