What about when I rebuild the engine I put some performance componets in. Crankshaft, camshafts, cylindar heads??? Can I amp up the compression ratio?

What about the Mitsubishi/Chrysler 2.5L V6 form the Dodge Stratus. If I'm gonna take the engine out of the car, I might as well see if the engine is compatible with the existing equipment in the PT and the weight should be about the same.

  1. Sell your NA PT
  2. Buy a Turbo one
  3. Save money and trouble...a lot

I wouldn't personally suggest an engine swap as the PT has a ton of sensors and the computer is locked up tighter than Fort Knox. It would be extremely difficult to make sure that all the sensors on your new engine play nicely with your computer.

You can increase the compression of the motor by decking the block, swapping pistons, etc. The cost, however, when compared to the result, will leave you wanting more-- trust me. On the other hand, if you have a limitless amount of cash flow, (which would beg the question: why a PT Cruiser?) then you'd be much better off following the consensus in this thread: sell your N/A and get a turbo/GT.

You can absolutely do the first option. Research the parts needed and the costs involved to make sure your up to it. But building the motor from the ground up is ideal. I couldn't do that with mine because I had to have the car back on the road within three weeks of tear down. If that's not a problem for you don't worry about it.

Personally, I think you're probably not understanding all the complexity involved in dropping a 2.7 or 2.5 V6 into a PT.....Have you looked under your hood lately? That engine bay is tight man! I couldn't even find a good place to mount my HID ballasts!

Doing a NA PT turbo kit would be WAY easier than doing a v6 swap IMO.

If you swap motors, just do an srt4 swap... Then either beef up the tranny or grab one from DCR(hehehe). Youll need the pcm and wire harness too but is by far your easiest option. You can get a low miles 03-04 drivetrain for 3k...ish
