This is the FIRST thoughtful solution to the problem of volume cold air induction, without making a tuba out of the intake. I and several others enjoy the sound of a low rumbling exhaust, but do not want to hear any more from the turbo than the BOV.
Congradulations to someone with the initiative to see the whole problem and to try to do more than copy what has been done by a hundred others. |

I am genuinely dissapointed that the premier performance filtration company thought so little of our PT that they litterally made the cheapest stab at a cone filter on a tube.

Airbillster,
I have to say I could not agree more with any post I have read to date. You did indead make a wonderful leap forward with your intake. I have longed after a hood, and box combo as I think that is the only true answer to heated air NOT being a issue. That said I know intakes make hp as my experiance with HotShot intake on my Toyota it made hp, and NOISE. That is my issue. Yours looks like it is well sealed, and I am sure it makes noise still. I think the week link in all this is the bend at the turbo, and heat. Here is what I am going to try when I do my Stage 1 this week. I will replace just that elbow with what ever I can. I want to find a mat type insulation to insulate that entire tube to the stock box, I hope something easy on the eye. I am going to dyna-mat( you music guys know this stuff, I did my ENTIRE inside of my Toyota X-cab with this including roof) my entire inside stock air box, leave my K$N in, and then use the above pleasing to the eye mat, on the entire outside of the stock box. I also am worried about the oil line so far back in the tube of the K&N prototype. If you had the inline filter mod inplace I would think it would be fine though. And last I would like to see dyno proof of CAI or stock box WITH Stage 1.

Airbillster,
Ilove your mod. It looks clean and very functional. Like Kirby and LAF said, Best settup seen to date. The only thing I would add, maybe cosmetic or functional, if space permits. I would install the weatherstrip that was removed from the rear firewall and install in on the top edge of the box, sealing any small gaps and making it look like factory installed. BTW, I love the batery cover! Makes it look even better.

Here's my version of a "real" cold air intake:
![]() A K&N cone filter is located below the driver's side wiper cowl cover. The rest of the intake consists of a 3" od aluminum tube connected to the filter, a 3" id upper flex tube, a 3" od aluminum intermediate tube with connections for stock breather hoses, and 2.75" rubbber lower elbow for connection to the turbo. The cowl cover has holes drilled in it to allow the entry of fresh, cold air from the hi-pressure area at the base of the windshield The weatherstripping is intact sealing off the engine compartment. The filter is shielded from rain under the portion of the cowl cover that is solid. Water that enters the filter area is drained away by factory holes. This is NOT a solution for noise-sensitive drivers. At WOT throttle it sounds like a jet aircraft on a take-off roll!!! But that's OK with me!
