ever since I installed Pepboys ceramic brake pads I've had a squeak when the car is rolling but as soon as you touch the pedal lightly or side load the wheel (making a turn) the squeak stops until everything is back normal.
Also, the brakes make an audible clank just before the car comes to a complete stop. This weekend I removed all the pads, looked for abnormal wear on the caliper housing and pads backing plate and saw none. I cleaned everything and applie Permatex Brake Quiet to the backside of all the pads and the noises are gone. What could have been the cause of it? All the anit-reattle clips are there and not bent. I did this once before and the Permatex lasted for about a year......any ideas? I thought maybe the backing plate was too small allowing the pads to shift and move but the side to side play is only 15 thousandths of an inch thanks for your input |

Did you bed them in correctly? And everything is nice and snug?
Is this a GT or N/A? I ask since the shims for a turbo car have to be reused for an N/A use the new ones in the box..

it is a GT
the rotors were turned and pads were bedded in no shims came with the kit. these pads already the anti-squeal sensor and clips for the piston on the inboard pads yep everything is snug and cannot see any unusual wear or shiny spots where parts rub when they travel ever so slightly so far the Permatex I put on is still holding, but for how long. Shouldn't need to use that stuff if everything is kosher |

Take it back to Pep Boys and get them to remove the squeak... They're probably wondering where it went.
![]() Probably something to do with the caliber alignment.

Good man. So did you reuse the shims you had? If you didn't I will bet there is your noise right there.. Hmmm.. I know with one set of pads and rotors I had, they made noise from the day I installed them til I ripped them out six months later, it was just the combo of a Semi-Cermic pads and upgraded rotors. They just didn't like each other.

what shims? there weren't any. only the back plates the pads are on, the anti-squeal clips and the springs on top of each pad.
I have done dozens of brakes and the only shims I ever saw were on the older, say 70 or 80s cars |

ok I call them shims you call them anti-squeal clips.. They look like a pointy U shape deals that go on the caliper at the top and bottom of where the pad sits? If so yes we are talking the same thing.. The ones on the GT you reuse the N/A you use what comes in the box since they are different.

Wow you can order them now? For years we tried to find that little part and couldn't well some dealers would order them for us then that dried up so we just reuse them..
