I would say less than minimal, unless of course you drive 1/4 mile at a time and have a habit of shutting down immediately after crossing the traps.
Turbo timers are a response to a screw-up when manufacturers first introduced turbos. Chrysler was the first (and for a long time, only) maker to use water-cooled bearing housings. The water prevented extreme heat build up, and since then we have learned how to thermal siphon to essentially prevent the need for idling before shut-down. Those turbos without water jackets (including many aftermarket today) are succeptable to bearing damage due to overtemping the oil - but full synthetics are very resistant to this. Full synthetics were brand new when turbos first hit the market in the early eighties, and nobody really knew what to do with them. Technology marches on...

3BarBoost ... Yeah, the car was driving great when I last parked it before the "cloud". A hour before I had made a run to pick up some dinner and had to let it out to get away from some drunk that tried to hit me in an intersection on the way home. After dinner, I had to go get some milk for breakfast and ... poof! cloud of smoke on start-up. Thanks for the heads up on the turbo timer issue, you just saved me some $ and some work. Even aftrer I have been running hard on the freeway, I always soft pedal it home the last couple of miles to give it a little cool down. ptgbcb, the noise was a "wirling, spinning grinding" sound . I know if I hear it again now, I've got problems.
It was a long two weeks!

I for one wouldn't be surprised if your new turbo feels a little peppier than the first. If it had been making funny noises from the get-go, it wasn't mechanically sound ever.
I added some more comments on my last post regarding water-cooling if anyone is interested....

Couple of reasons. First is cost, typically 4X mineral oils. You do make some of this up by less frequent oil change intervals (due to synthetic thermal stability), but not 4x as infrequently. The second is higher performance engines are the only ones that can benefit from high temperature stability. Anything that has an oil cooler on it generally needs some help, but the 2.4L Turbo added a cooler so that you don't have to buy synthetic. Corvette a few years back was able to eliminate their oil cooler and run with pure synthetic - but that was to avoid durability issues with their cooler. Kind of a judgement call on the manufacturer's part as to whether the added ownership cost is worth it.
