Default TURBO FAILURE!

At 15k miles, my turbo is being replaced! Started the car in the driveway, as I pulled away I looked in the rearveiw mirror and ...A BIG CLOUD OF BLUE SMOKE COVERED THE CUL-DE SAC!!!
Took it to my dealer the next day, they had it for a week running tests and the conclusion is that the turbo is gone! Turns out this part is on an engineer hold until they confirm through a week of tests, but now has now been released to my dealer. Turbo is on the West coast which is good... all other parts needed to replace are not! My service advisor says he is praying that they will get the parts by NEXT FRIDAY! Sounds like the factory guys are freaking out over this. Anybody have as many miles yet?

Thank God for a dealership not hastling you over the replacement.
Please keep us in touch with all the particulars... this is new ground for DCX. Maybe we can all take a lesson.

I have 14500 now![|)]

Service advisor did not have any problems with the fact that I have installed a CAI and Changed the exhaust. I will try and find out exactly just what has failed and report guys...

I hope for your sake that you don't have any type of boost controller bubba. This would be prime reason for them to DENY warranty, all be it that they must still prove that your modification was to sole cause of failure. Good luck and i hope it works out for you!!!

Were you running synth oil? The syptoms sound like what happened on my first turbo car before I learned about synth. When I change to synth I was able to run my turbos for 120K-200K miles with no turbo problems. It was the bearings that got chewed up from the coking of the dino oil.

Thinking about switching after hearing this!!! DC contends that synthetic oil is not necessary for their turbos cause they are cooled internally with oil and water and the water circulates even after engine is turned off. I think I got that story straight!!

Still not clear what failed here - sounds like a seal. If a seal goes away, it usually isn't because of the type of oil used. A worn thrust bearing will cause a turbo to smoke a little (if you run too much boost too often), but not normally a huge cloud. Is the car back from service yet? This sounds like maybe a valve stem seal, especially right after startup.
