I agree. Dealers have to make money to stay in business, but anywhere from $300-500 per vehicle is a fair amount of profit if they're doing it right.

I RESPECTFULLY DISAGREE, I'M A SALES MANAGER IN A MEXICO CITY DEALER AND I CAN TELL YOU THAT MAKING 300 OR 500 A CAR, IT WOULDN'T BE PROFITABLE, WE NEED A LOT MORE.

It's profitable if you sell enough of them.

THAT'S THE PROBLEM, YOU JUST DON'T GET IT!
IN YOUR QUEST TO GET "A LOT MORE" YOU RAISE THE STENCH FACTOR OF YOUR BUSINESS!

We Americans are used to paying a fair price for items... no more. We don't bargain for a tomato at the local grocery store. If it is afordable we buy it, if not we have a lettice salad!

Add into the mix that people get emotionally attached to their vehicles and you have a perfect scenario to - TAKE ADVANTAGE - of unsuspecting , and surely not professional buyers with: PRESSURE TACTICS, MULTIPLE SALES AND MANAGEMENT FIGURES POPPING IN AND OUT, SHIFTING NUMBERS,.....VIOLA!!!
MANY PEOPLE FEEL LIKE THEY HAVE BEEN s*+#$@D EVEN WHEN THEY GOT A FAIR PRICE.

Now, come back and ask that same administrator to do warranty work when there is a way to wiggle out of it?..... Let me guess what could happen.

If, as I heard years ago, there isn't enough profit in it without jacking the trusting and unsuspecting people.....go into another line of business and stop complaining!

I DIDN'T COMPLAIN, IF A CUSTOMER DOESN'T FIND MY PRICE REASONABLE, THE DOOR IS WIDE OPEN, THE MARKET IS HUGE AND THERE'S A LOT OF CUSTOMERS, I'M NOT INTO CHEATING PEOPLE OUT OF THEIR MONEY, I'M INTO MAKING A REASONABLE PROFIT CONSIDERING THE INVESTMENT THAT A DEALERSHIP IS, I'M NOT INTO THE WHOLE "CUSTOMER SETS THE PRICE ACTING LIKE HE'S WALKING OUT ANY MINUTE" IT'S A DEAL IN WHICH BOTH PARTIES HAVE TO WIN SOMETHING.

Can we all agree that Paris is the capital of France? Good! Now that we're back in agreement......

Try carmax.com - a new 2004 GT w/ auto is about $23,100. Best price I've found so far, and I've been shopping/negotiating/talking/walking away for a while...only drawback is they have only a few locations in the US from which you can buy a Chrysler. But you can custom factory order too, and at least use it as a point of comparison/negotiation. I've come close with a local offer but haven't bought yet. GOOD LUCK - post your progress/results!

Here is what I will agree to:
When I bought my PT, I told the dealer exactly what I wanted, the specific upgrades and the price (which included some profit). I told him I would be buying on Wednesday. We shook hands and I left. I got a call tuesday night; on Wednesday we signed papers.....both pleased that we had made a mutually beneficial deal.
The dealer (Tutle Click in Irvine, CA) even installed the rear sway bar at no charge(I think they ate the $125).

I NEVER said that every dealer was crooked. Very often you can smell it or sense it immediately. Some people even like it; they love to immerse themselves in the whole process, and figure the extra cost is an entertainment fee.

I DO THINK THAT IT SHOWS AN INCREDIBLE LACK OF INTEGRITY FOR A DEALER, OR A DCX EMPLOYEE OR FAMILY MEMBER TO COME ON THIS SITE HAWKING THE BENEFITS OF UNWARRANTED PARTS WITHOUT MENTIONING THE DOWNSIDE!!

I THINK IF YOU ARE IN THAT GROUP YOU SHOULD BE HELD TO A HIGHER STANDARD, OR BE OUTED AS SLIME!!

Kirby,
What specific examples do you have that DCX employees doing what you are saying. What I have seen is just them telling it like it is...
