2005 PT GT Check engine code

Okay, today I got check engine light, so I pulled over and connected my PCM diagnostic code reader.
It gave me a code of P03401.

I have a list of the codes but the nearest one P0340 and P0341 are Camshaft Position(CMP) sensor circuit and sensor performance. That makes no sense to me. And I have no idea about it. I cleared codes so will see if it pops up again.

I could not locate an actual P03401 code in the list I have.

if that is correct, I assume that could be a serious problem?

Lots of the same code popping up with many owners, turbo and non-turbo engines. The Camshaft sensor is located on the right side of the engine. You might have to take the air filter box off to get to it. First check all the wiring. The wiring harness goes all the way round back of the engine. Check as much of it as you can for damage. A few of us had wiring harness damage. If you decide to replace it, only use a part from Chrysler. There's been bad replacement parts from aftermarket auto stores. They run about $50 and make sure you get the one exactly for you make and model.

If your going to do your own work, I suggest getting a hold of the Chilton or Haynes manual or try downloading one of the service manuals from the top of the Tech & Performance section of this forum.

Thank you Crewzin, I don't understand why it just happened to throw a code like that. I didn't touch anything LOL
So why do the error codes lists not list P03401, but only P0340 and P0341?

Oh, and I have searched here for service manuals, but all appear to be owner's manuals only.

They didn't change too much from the earlier models and it will help with basic maintenance. There is none for the GT. Under the Tech & Performance section look for my sticky entitled: FREE 01-04 Service Manual.

As far as your code. I don't know why it was P03401. Think it was a mistake and should have been P0340. Maybe it couldn't make up it's mind between 0 and 1.
