if he goes the srt way i'm assuming he would be getting a complete engine?!?! but it would have to be a stick because thats all they come in. i found a used pt gt engine on ebay for 900 with 47,000. it took me 4 months to find one cheap enough.
don't go adding a turbo because thats the route i wanted to go. and i new eventually that i would want to tinker with boost. the stock internals on a n/a motor are not a strong as on the gt or srt4. if i were you i would just do a swap out.

supercharge it! 6lb pulley, no worries
stock internals will handle it, chip it, larger injectors. the srt-4 swap is great!! did you do the tranny as well? if so did you have to use the srt-4 K-frame? and also did you have to move the radiator back any? as far as boost levels go, find a waste gate with a 6lb spring, this will only allow 6lbs of boost to be created, if more is desired, a manual boost controller is required to bleed off pressure going to the waste gate therefore requiring the turbo to produce more boost to open the waste gate.

I think the engine would be all right, but if you have an auto, that would not be advisable.

Sorry, but 140k miles is way too many miles to add a turbo without rebuilding the engine.

I agree with the above two posts. If you have a bit of extra cash and really want to do this do it the right way... if you want to convert before you repair, make sure each cylinder has the enough compression and doesnt loose compression. Old engine tend to loose compression due to worn piston rings and increased tolerances between crucial parts just due to the counltess rubbing. Buy an aftermarket manifold and turbo with a piggy back computer with a map sensor built in. The stock turbo on a pt is too small for even something decent. Im not saying go out and buy the baddest turbo on the market but i think a 50 trim with a 48 exhaust would be the absolute BIGGEST i would recommend with an N/A block. the compression is around 9.5 compared to the turbo blocks which have 8.0. Big difference but with less boost you will get more power. Enjoy! and keep posting on what you decide on doing.

Here are some pictures of what i have done to my pt im pushing 22 pounds on stock turbo soon to be a 60 Trim just need the fuel mods to install the new turbo, and performance axles with a performance clutch from SPEC stage 3+. Using the pt sub-frame, srt engine, tranny, axles, knuckles, CUSTOM wire harness, custom piping, custom mine inter-cooler (soon to be water to air), custom exhaust, the list goes on and on but she is incredible i ran 13.8 on shitty tires spinning all through 2 gear like i was on water. She is an 01 PT Cruiser with a 04 Dodge Neon SRT-4 Power Plant.
![]() PS: one of the pictures shows the 1 inch clearance between the radiator and the intake manifold. i had to install two aftermarket fans in the front to cool it. because the manifold was too big. I had to install Solid mounts to prevent the manifold to hit the manifold while i shift.
