Default Info needed for possible purchase

Hey guys.
I am looking at a 2003 pt cruiser gt with 72,000 miles. I am pretty mechanically inclined, but I was hoping someone on here could give me some info and tips on stuff I need to check and common problems I need to look for before I decide to buy or not. How much power is it supposed to have?(I know the numbers, I want to know if its very fast or very weak or etc).
Also, if anyone has had nothing but problems from their pt gt, I would like to hear about that too.
Thanks for any help!

Dealer or private?
If private - ask for any/all maintenance records.
See if you can take it to a mechanic you trust and get their opinion - if he can get it on a lift, have him look at suspension.
If no records, chew the price down.
Pay attention to how the auto shifts (assume it's an auto).
If you get it -
1) Change the oil to synthetic.
2) Buy some good ignition wires and a set of plugs (gap at 0.040) and put them in
3) Get the transmission flushed (requires a flushing machine that gets all the fluid) - be sure they use only ATF + 4 - should be about $200.

The GT should put a smile on you face when you punch the gas....

Maybe you can get them down on the cost of a timing belt job... because there's one coming up. And I wouldn't wait until 100k as too many have broken right about there.

Make sure it starts first thing in the morning when it's below freezing temp.
