SRT-4 and GT 5 speed "clunk" noises

Guys,

They seem to be experiencing the same "clunk" sound between gears. I had gotten used to the sound but the last two days I have been driving my Probe GT 5 speed and let me tell you, it is as silent as Mr. Bush's thoughts in his head (sorry...coudn't resist).

In any case, could it be the clutch? The GETRAG is a REALLY NICE firm gearbox...I really like it but the "clunk" is not normal as I have driven literally hundreds of manual cars...

I discussed this with my dealership previously but it would have been easier to discuss this to my mom beside a jet engine for all the good it did (Oh, I don't hear anything...right after I see their face change when they *hear* the clunk)....[xx(][xx(][xx(]

3BARBOOST:
Since you are here often and have provided some great assistance, is there any chance you can do some research for us? As in the previous discussions, I would say the majority had this sound. I road tested about 6 PT GT 5 speeds and all but 1 had this sound (it was actually the one I bought, but now it makes the sound?!).

I have that noise in mine also. I had the clutch replaced under the recall, but the noise is still there. The clutch action is much lighter though.

I don't see this as a problem.

I don't necessarily see it as a problem either...but since no one can answer us what it is, we cannot state for sure that it is not a problem.
It's definitely THE ONLY manual that I have driven that makes this noise (this includes my experience driving manuals from Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Ford, GM, Chrysler, Peugeot, Renault, Austin, among others...).

Compared to my Ford, which was always smooth and quiet. Right through the 3 transmissions I replaced.

My point being: Making noise doesn't make a bad transmission, pieces falling out on the ground makes a bad transmission.

I respectfully disagree. My Probe GT is making lots of noises right now and I can tell you for a fact there is a problem...

Most of us would like to know what this "unusual" noise is. If it is normal and they can state what the noise is...no problem...So far, no one seems to know what the problem is and I don't intend to wait for "pieces falling out on the ground" before researching this.

The SRT-4 5 speed is a totally different transmision than the GT Cruiser. So if they do make similar noises, any perceived "problem" is not related.

If the majority of you experience it, could somebody please tape it? My car you can hear a slight exhaust "burb" on upshifts - but nothing else. SRT-4s do this as well, and is much more evident on GTs with Stage 1 kits.

3BarBoost, I will tape it. I just can't guarantee the audio quality.
Brad Vandrasik: Yes, I do realize that they are different transmissions...it is a possibility that there is another clutch issue and or motor mounts (as 3BarBoost previously commented on).
