The downstream 02 sensor is located on the left side of the CAT.

Re the O2 sensor location can you elaborate a little. Is the Downstream side the drivers side or Passenger side..
I get confused sometimes I can't remember if the left side is looking at the front of the car or setting in the drivers seat looking out.

I just developed this same problem in my 2004 turbo..My car gets so bad it shuts down and won't start.. I have to wait till its cold then it will start but then after its hot it shuts down again..The obdII give both a 32 and a 38 so I don't think replacing one O2 sensor will fix the problem.

I'm on my way to the the library to see if I can get some info on the heater control circuit..

Thanks

Bob

When someone says left side, it refers to the drivers side.

Here's something from PT Do-It-Yourself.net:

I have a 2004 Dream Cruiser GT (HO) with 168k miles. About 300 miles ago, I had to replace both my Cat and O2 sensors, due to multiple fault codes. All was well after the replacement until I tripped codes P0032/P0038 yesterday. I checked the wiring on the after Cat sensor and everything looks good. I cleared the code, restarted the car and immediately tripped the CE light again. The car runs fine, but I am concerned about driving in this condition. Appreciate your input and time. – Larry, from Iowa.

P0032 – O2 Sensor 1/1 Heater Circuit High

Possible causes include:

O2 Sensor Heater Operation
O2 Heater Element
O2 Heater Ground Circuit Open
O2 Sensor
O2 Heater Control Shorted To Voltage
O2 Heater Control Circuit Open
PCM

P0038- O2 Sensor 1/2 Heater Circuit High

Possible causes include:

O2 Sensor Heater Operation
O2 Heater Element
O2 Heater Ground Circuit Open
O2 Sensor
O2 Heater Control Shorted To Voltage
O2 Heater Control Circuit Open
PCM

The upstream oxygen sensor (1/1) threads into the outlet flange of the exhaust manifold. The downstream heated oxygen (1/2) sensor is mounted after the catalytic converter.

I have saved some instructions for testing the heater control circuit on the O2 sensors.. I haven't had a chance to check my car out yet but I will..

I can't upload the files as they are too big so if you want them email me and I'll send them to you.
