Wink Annoying newbie question

Hi guys! I am awaiting my 2005 GT Turbo to get here. (Its in transit from Memphis TN to Houston TX)

I mainly had questions on how to care for an older car, particularly a Chrysler PT Cruiser GT Turbo 4D Wagon. As I have never owned any other American car besides Chevys.

The car has 56k Miles. Carfax is 110% clean as well as another background check. 1 Owner car Im getting from Carmax. (Overpriced I know...)

I already saw the threads on detailing and that was helpful, but I was really curious on two things: Gasoline and Oil. Should I be using the highest Octane since the car is older/turbo'd? What kind of Oil is best for this engine? I am mainly looking for what will keep it going strong for city driving. I dont plan to race it, but I do plan to blow the dust out every now and then so to speak lol.

Any opinions are welcome! <3 Meagan

Welcome to the Forum Megan.
You have to use premium gas because it is a GT Turbo. Synthetic oil is the best to use. Most of us use synthetic even we who have NA (non aspirated) PT's. Yes, it is more expensive but you can go 5,000 before a oil change.

^^^^^ What he said.
The GT Turbo requires premium, and synthetic oil is WAY better than "regular" oil, and 5,000 mile changes are what I do.
If it's an auto, you should find a place with a flushing machine, and have the auto transmission flushed (no chemicals, the machine just pushes all the old fluid out) and be sure thay use onlt ATF + 4 - costs around $200.
Every 50,000 miles.

Thanks alot guys! Is there a preferred brand of synthetic oil that people use? I have always used Castrol in the Malibu, but definatly not synthetic heh . I also should ask if the dealer flushed everything out as well. :/

Thanks, Meagan

I use Mobil 1, but have used Castrol synthetic at times - I stay away from the "blends" because they never say what % is synthetic - 2 drops?
Walmart sells Mobil1 in 5-quart jugs (exactly what the PT needs) - I do my own, maybe you can find a place that'll let you bring the oil, and change it for you - oh, and base Fram filters are crap - Purolator is fine, or Wix (I use Mobil 1 filters, too- even better).

X-2 - Mobil 1 from walmart is the cheapest and best Synthic oil ou can get.

91 oct fuel since it is a turbo. and change the fluid on the PT when you get it so you know your good for while.

Hi Hooligan, N/A actually stands for "Normally Aspirated" as opposed to "Turbo Charged". "Non aspirated" would translate to "non breathing" and our N/As definantly breathe very well.
