Default 2004 Issues - Don't want to give the car up..but...

First post and I need help. I have a 2004 2.4L Turbo with 111,000 miles on it. I love my car and don't want to give it up, but I am seriously thinking about it. After filling up the car to go to work, I started it up, experiencing a rough idle, low acceleration power (a snail coulda beat me), the engine sounded different, and the check engine light is blinking. I am going to have it towed to the nearest dealer (again) keeping my fingers crossed that it isn't anything too expensive. This is the 4th time this year I've had to tow the car in. I've spent a couple thousand to get things fixed. I would have really liked to spent that money tricking it out instead of repairs.
Where can I find a list of known problems with this make? We're thinking this one is a fuel filter issue, but won't know until we get it up on the computer.

Any help? Ideas? Suggestions?

Welcome to the forum.

There isn't a "list" with known problems, only recalls and none of them would probably pertain to what your problem is. If you would have looked over the forum you would see that's it's pretty easy to find what the computer is telling yo by turning on the engine light. That should have been done before having it towed to the dealer this time and maybe the other times also.

Out of the thousands of problems that show up on this forum, the fuel pump is the last thing to go EXCEPT if you've been running the gas tank very low on numerous occasions. The fuel pump is on the bottom of the tank and the fuel itself cols and lubricates the pump. Running low on fuel can and does burn the pump out if yo do it too often.

Reading the code could have told you to maybe just replace a simple sensor or ignition part that would have had your car back on the road in no time.

At 111K miles, do you know that your past due for a $1000 service which included the timing belt, water pump and a couple other parts? Your driving on borrowed time before the belt snaps.

I've had my 90,000 mile service and I am assured that, after inspection, the rest of the belts are fine. What went out was an ignition coil. It was just a fluke that it went out after filling up for gas. Unfortunately, when the coil went out it fritzed out another part that will be replaced today along with the spark plug wires. We're looking at another $500.00 The dealer is throwing in a fuel injector cleaning at no additional charge.

I've never seen a coil go bad, but anythings possible. Methinks you just got fleeced and given a bone to play with. At least he didn't sell you exhaust bearings.

Also, windshield oil! You cant forget that :P but seriously, the key dance will always give you the check engine readings, and its free and doesn't take but approximately 3 seconds of your time! After the key dance, you can go to ptcrew.com and look at the mod bible and see what all of the CEL codes mean which would give you a starting point to look at for issues

We have the codes posted right here on this forum in a couple different places. The beginning of the Tech & Performance section and the General Turbo Discussions.

You have 111,000 miles on the car. Without knowing it's service history it would really be impossible for us to diagnose. You should learn the "key dance" so you can at least pull your own codes. We could give you better input if we had better intel.
