I found this interesting ( from USA TODAY auto writer 03 feb http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/...pt-turbo_x.htm):
"PT Turbo uses a German Getrag five-speed manual, pricier and smoother than the New Venture Gear transmission in the Neon SRT-4, which grinds gears now and then. The Getrag's a robust box, used with diesel-power Cruisers sold overseas." Here is another one about PT cruiser classification. "Cruiser enjoys multiple identities. You probably look at it and see a car. The great tally masters who record vehicle sales and must categorize everything as something call Cruiser a sport-utility vehicle, even though four-wheel drive isn't available (a major disappointment and a bigger drawback during winter storms like those that socked the Atlantic coast recently). The government classifies it as a light truck, because of the removable seats and SUV-like stubby front and rear body overhangs." I knew about multiple identities, but did not know about 5-speed facts. [^] |

The early SRTs had problems with 1st gear syncros that made them hard to downshift into 1st. Those have been fixed for about eight months. However, the T850 box with the new mods shifts better than my Getrag. Ever try to do a quick 2-3 upshift with a PT GT? Half the time you miss the gate. Also, the T850 is good to about 300 ft-lb, or 55 ft-lb more the the Getrag. Different animals.
And I hate the reverse placement in the pattern. Well, maybe I hate the "ding ding ding" more.

I beat the dog crap out of my SRT and it has 21k miles. I purchased the first one in FL back on feb 13 and she is a happy camper.
Right now she is undergoing surgery; the pistons and head have been swapped out for a JE piston and ported head. ![]() Also im redoing my tubular manifold so it can fit the popular t3/t4 turbo. Actually, I recall my car slip the clutch one time. But it no longer does it. The SRT has a tendency of sometimes slipping, I think this is due to it not being fully broken in. Hec

3BarBoost, Thanks for that info.
"the T850 is good to about 300 ft-lb, or 55 ft-lb more then the Getrag." I hope you don't mean that our GT Getrag can only stand 245 ft-lb of torque. With Stage 2 kit at 280 ft-lb., I hope GT Getrag can handle it no problem.

Yep many quick 2 -3 shifts and my share of "missed shifts" even after installing the B&M sport shifter . However a simple $25.00 mod has eliminated that problem . Booger bushings on tranny and shifter ...no more 2-3 shift problems...just click, click!

Just put my Booger Bushings in yesterday and took it out for a few power-shifts. It definetly is well worth the investment...so much so I'll probably skip purchasing any new short-shifter for now.
One question maybe 3BarBoost can answer, the large shifter bushing (at he transmission) has two notches on it. You are supposed to align those notches with the "ears" in the shifter cable. On the stock factory bushing I can see where it makes a difference since the stock bushing has holes in it for give and would compress differently installed one way than if it was rotated 90 degrees. The Booger Bushings are solid (no give) and will make no differance whether the ears are aligned or not. Also the Booger Bushings are a little longer in length so even if you align the ears with the notch in the bushing, there is enough room for the cable end to slip down out of the notch. Deen
