Question PT Turbo problem

I have a 2006 PT GT Turbo with 22,000 miles w/automatic transmission. I have an intermittent problem. I'll be driving and all of a sudden the car loses power and all the instrument lights and dials go haywire. It wants to stall but continues to run probably because I'm moving. It doesn't happen everytime I drive it. The dealer wants to replace the instrument cluster for $700 but I have a hard time believing the cluster would cause a stall. I've had the computer checked and it comes up clean.
Any help would be appreciated as I want to sell the car soon.
thanks,

MT

all the lights come on and flash but without any controlled repetition . no ding either. all the dash intstruments go crazy, the gas gauge, tach, speedometer and temp go up and down.

Gotta be a short or ground as said above. Doubt the cluster is bad as dealer advised. Problem is FINDING it!

Have a look at your battery cables, they need to be CLEAN and tight. I have read a few posts that say some cable ends are problematic; The call for bad a ground is worth looking at also.
