Unhappy Turbo problems?

Hey new to this site here.

I am having problems with my 2004 PT Ltd Turbo with 64,000 miles.
Hearing some noise coming from behind the motor. It sounds like something might have broke off and is floating around in the manifold really close to the turbo I believe. Turbo also is whining really loud
Have not gotten a diagnosis yet....kinda broke since I just got it out of the shop from a front end collision.
Dont think that the shop it was at replaced the oil or filled it up, but I found out that I could not even get a drop on the dipstick ! Also the week before this happened I ran complete out of gas.

Any help is very appreciated. I am going to try and fix this one myself as I have seen outrageous quotes. Plus most of you seem to think its easy to swap out the turbo I see.

Dennis

What could be the noise I am hearing?? Sounds like a penny in a fan blade or something.
Sounds like it is coming from the manifold by the turbo.

have you ever worked on a car? I mean if you can't check your own oil level/fuel level I doubt you can swap your turbo.

You need to ask yourself why you had no oil in your PT, where did it go?

Well Cal since this is my 1st Turbo I have ever had I am pretty sure I can deal with it. Have had it for about 2-3 years now.
I have changed an alternator and others parts of a car and yes I know how to check fluids.

Dino, I wonder the same thing. I am pretty sure that the place I had work on it did something to it and does not want to fess up.

Update....I did get the turbo and manifold out with a friend. Took only a few hours. The turbo has bent fan blades and some of them are broken which I am pretty sure that is what the noise was...pieces of the blades. It also had alot of play in it moving back and forth.

Getting it rebuilt then I will put back in.....hopefully soon!
Then back to Turbo Cruisin!

No Thanks to Cal!

You better use synthetic oil in that puppy!

Post Re: Turbo problems?

I keep reading about pros, cons and myths on synthetic oil vs conv oil.

Some of my friends say don't use it now and some say go ahead.

Who am I suppose to believe...the owners manual or everybody else.

The right oil for your car is cheap insurance
Buy the oil your manufacturer recommends – your engine will thank you.

????

I really do not want anything else to go wrong just by putting in syn oil.
I have never used it before. The car already has 64,000 miles on it.
What should I watch for just in case needing to switch back to conv oil?

There are no "cons" to synthetic oil - except it costs more.
Synthetic oil flows better in cold weather for start-up, and doesn't turn to bearing-eating char at extreme temperatures - the temps you find with a turbo.
