Default 03 manual tranny experience

I have a 2003 PT GT manual, I bought it new. My tranny was part of the recall, and needed it badly. The warranty tranny was better but not great. It was notchy and only lasted 40,000 miles. I had to pay for the third tranny and listen to the dealer tell me that it was my fault because I did not know how to shift. Ugh.

The good news is that 3 times is a charm. The newest tranny shifts by far the best and made the car a joy to drive aggressively. At 75,000 mile it is as smooth as the day I got it

Has chrysler changed the manual transmission other than the recall? I find it hard to believe that there can be that much variation in the build quality of their trannys.

There was never a recall for the Getrag?

I think they had some issues with slave cylinder on some of the early 03 GT but that was unrelated to the transaxle.

My 03 has 102K miles and shifts like butter. My only mods are booger bushings and I drain the fluid yearly and switched from ATF to Amsoil MTF

Are you sure it was the tranny itself that they changed? There actually was a recall for the manual PT's in 2003 but for the clutch assembly. Nothing I could find on the tranny itself.

Sorry about that, I had the flywheel / clutch assembly recall done on the car. I had the behavior desribed in the recall.
